About Me

I was born in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, raised with cloth diapers and homeschooled until I was old enough to attend a two-room schoolhouse at a nearby commune. A love of story was instilled in me early on, and before I learned the alphabet I was stapling homemade books together, my scribbles in crooked lines from front to back.
Perhaps it was the stories I read that inspired me to pursue a career at sea, but more likely it was simple stubbornness. I now work on research vessels, which have taken me from the Azores to Antarctica, and through the Panama Canal. Since 2017, I have worked as 2nd Mate aboard the RV Atlantis, aiding scientists in the exploration of underwater vonlanic vents and the discovery of deep sea creatures. Between voyages, I spend as much time as possible in the Virginia sunshine, nestled between the Blue Ridge and the Appalachian Mountains.
